Oxford University Press Illustrations

Over the past few weeks I have been working on a classbook for Spanish Children with Oxford University Press. The book is made up of lots of colourful activities for children to complete whilst learning about everyday life. Here are some example illustrations.

Stormy Sea Illustration

I was commissioned by Advocate Art to illustrate a picture for The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy magazine. They wanted an atmospheric stormy sea with lots of liners and a small tugboat so here it is!

People Tree T-shirt Comp

I entered the People Tree Circles of Hope T-shirt competition. The brief was to design a T-shirt that incorporates the 5 main People Tree countries, the colours black, green, red, yellow and blue, the Olympic games and it must encompass the idea that these countries and cultures are unified through sport....so quite a few things to get in there! This was my design.

Appledore and Cheltenham Book Festivals

Over the past few weeks I have given a number of talks at the Appledore and Cheltenham Book Festivals. Down in Devon I spoke to children at Kingsley Nursery School and St. Georges C of E School.

In Cheltenham I spoke to 50 people about 'The Loon on the Moon' and 'The Fabulous Flapdoodles' and together we created our own monsters and aliens!
I had a great time at all events so many thanks to all the organisers and children who came up with some fantastic creations!

Babar Draft

I started working with The London Opera Group on a poster for their upcoming show 'Babar'. This was a draft I submitted for a brief that they gave me. Unfortunately the project fell through but I thought I would post the draft anyway!

STORM Educational work

Some new naming activities for Storm Educational Software. On the above images children can label parts of a horse and flower.

Picture for Lou

My friend Lou commissioned me to create a painting for her partner based around an old bookshelf design of mine, here is the finished painting!

Library Mice Flapdoodles review!

'The Fabulous Flapdoodles' received a lovely review on the Library Mice blog from Mélanie McGilloway:

'There is something so deliciously Dr Seuss-esque about this book. This is due to its zany storyline and creatures, and its well-structured rhyming text, which brings fun and energy to the story, but most and foremost it is thanks to the way Emily Golden interpreted Chae Strathie's lovely text, creating Flapdoodles that are wacky and fun, and could easily be distant cousins of Sneetches! There are plenty of other creatures though, all  fun and non-threatening looking, and there is a lot of detail in the illustrations for little readers to get engrossed in. There is something very joyful about her illustrations, which is partly thanks to the vibrant colours that she uses. It is very modern, but it works well and is extremely child-friendly. '

THE FABULOUS FLAPDOODLES OUT NOW!

This Blog post is a little late! 'The Fabulous Flapdoodles' my second book with Chae Strathie, published by Scholastic is out in shops now. I'm really pleased with it and I had to draw some great characters for it so pop along to the shops and have a peek!

STORM Educational work

I have been working alongside Storm Educational, a company that creates software for schools. I have provided them with lots of small illustrations that they then turn into naming and pairing games for children to complete on the computer. Above you can see an example of the body parts naming exercise and a few collections of other illustrations (animals and vegetables).

New Pattern Agency!

I have been signed up to a new pattern agency, L J Woodhouse. Using briefs they have given me I have been coming up with lots of new pattern ideas, here is a selection of some recent designs.
